Downturn starts companies thinking about social networking

27th November 2008

With email broadcast and online advertising failing to bring in the punters is social networking starting to have a real impact?

The lastest e-consultancy report on social media is interesting reading and shows that social networking could be the lifeline needed to keep consumers connected with brands. Plus the news that the G1 phone from T-mobile is out performing sales by 100% and they predict 1million sales in year 1 it would appear that even the worse economic news ever can't stop digital communications.

Here is a brief overview:

  • 51% of business want to engage with customers more
  • But 45% have NO defined strategy
  • 41% are thinking of using user ratings & feedback
  • 37% are toying with user-generated content
  • 36% might start blogging
  • And 7% say they have found some success with Twitter

Without taking any credit I can say that I predicted this in my book Digital Revolution written in the Summer. What's interesting is that using a range of amazing online tools from companies such as Ning any business can have a high powered and exciting to use user interactive portal in no time at all. I say get going soon and don't get left behind.
