gTLD- Another step forward....

...or are generic top-level domains just too expensive?

 

 

 

A new range of generic top level domians will be available to bid on from January 12th 2012. Any business with about £200K to spend will be able to create a  dot - whatever you like!.

This has been on the back burner for sometime but businesses have less than 3 months to start the process. I am sure we will see .coke  .nike and  .Mcdonalds but for smaller business it could be out of reach. The arms race for good Internet domain names has been pretty constant since a peak in the early 2000. Today it is still deemed inportant by some, (Including the Dragon Peter Jones) that without a .com most new internet start ups are doomed. But is this reality?
