Podcasting- is it the fatest growing B2B tool?
11th December 2008
With the iphone and a few other mobile devices allowing instant anywhere downloading the future for podcasting is secured

Podcasting is really the new radio. For those into itunes, and the Apple range of mobile products suddenly we are all becoming much more choosy about our listening habits. Ok music is sometimes top of the list but whatever business, hobby or activity you enjoy there is now a group probably broadcasting a podcast about it. What's also great for certain business sectors is that many of these podcasts are totally International so you are getting the news as it happens in your industry from all over the globe. So for those who commute this is time may be used to work or listen to sport, hobby or business interests.
What is important also is that any business, club or group which has a website can immediately get into Podcasting but there are a few very important rules.
1. If you are discussing your business and your views make sure you have the broadcast censored before transmission
2. Poorly recorded, badly edited transmissions will be switched off and most likely the listener will opt out. Opting out is finally and you may find you have lost a customer as well!
3. Watch out for copywrite and inappropriate language and views, unless that's the point. This is the easiest way to turn off your listeners for ever
4. Make the introduction, the name, the 'audio brand' sound professional. This is not costly but makes a huge difference and people will remember the look and sound of your stuff. It's a branding exercise all of its own.
5. Test your ideas internally first, you can use my easy to set up guide to get you going but that's just for a start.
6. Once you are happy with your podcast idea I think it is best to plan and execute it like any important marketing communications plan. Greenfield provide a complete solution from initial feasibility to writing, recording, broadcasting and ensuring it is embedded and linked correctly on line.
7. Podcasting is a low cost but time intensive way to add character to your brand. It will become addictive to the people who regularly broadcast and some will become excellent and natural presenters. As the saying goes they have a great face for radio! Others will have voices that just won't work, so test them first.
